The cancer ride has always been up there on my bucket list especially after my friends child was diagnosed when brain cancer Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma ( DIPG)
this cancer wraps around the stem of the brain and its cant be removed .
The Child usually lives for 1 year but can live to a max of 2 years .
This Cancer attacks all functions of the body the first sign of this
illness is the eye will look cross eyed a eye doctor will be the one
who can recognize this right away ,because un like cross eye or lazy eye
the eye will not go back straight with glasses that's how they know its
a tumor . after a few months the child will loose his speech making
him unable to talk , loose his sight making the child blind , and
finally unable to breath on their own , slowly their body will shut
down ....Heart breaking ! This little boys name was Caleb Lanz the bravest boy in the world and he was born on NOV 16 2001 and was diagnosed on Jan 28 / 10 and lost his fight to cancer on Sep 24 / 11 . I will never forget his mother shelly last journey entry they went out to red robin for dinner Caleb couldn't eat , talk , walk , but he mange to write on his white board that he tries use to communicate ....I love you mom , still tell this day I think of that ! I think of Chandler and I how we have our special date night once a week just him and I to talk and always stay connected , I couldn't imagine that ever getting taken away .....my heart aches . Sometimes I just don't understand life
All I could think of is I need to ride I need to help ! Then Kyle asked me to ride for cancer . His company paid for the whole thing I could believe this was happening honestly cant thank him enough .
Kyle Conway has been a friend of mine for about 20 years we had our wild party days growing up in Aldergrove together , But now as adults we have our wild adventures ... together we set crazy goals and finish them together ! We both fell in love with running and cycling . Kyle has gone through some tough races with me , 2 50 km trail races together Baker lake 50 km trail race , and Diez Vista 50 km race . We both plan on riding in the Penticton grand fondo 160 km July 7th and will be i running in the squamish 50 which takes place Aug 10 / 13 I will be doing the 50 km but Kyle will be running the 50 miler . Kyle only started to ride his bike last year but it was love at first ride and he tells me at least 10 times a ride how much he loves his bike....It makes me smile every time !
Kyle
and I set out on this adventure 310 km over 2 days we decided to do the
challenge route instead which was longer and more steep . I cant thank
Kyle enough for this ride ! it was perfect the weather was hot and sunny
other then a few rain drops though out the 2 days . This ride often
rains the whole time and I always wondered why they don't change the
date , but my thought is I think that no matter what day it fell on it
would rain and this is why
Day 1 150 km |
I believe the rain is tears from people who have lost their fight
I believe the rain is tears from family's who have lost their loved ones in their fight
I believe the rain is tears of thanks for everyone trying to help fight and end cancer
and one day ...I believe the rain will be tears of joy when we find a cure and end cancer
please believe
Day 2 160 km |
we did it !!!! |
love crossing the finish line into Robins arms |
